IMLA is committed to supporting Indigenous medical learners by creating spaces that prioritize student needs, strengthen community, and foster meaningful allyship. Much of this support is delivered through events and cultural programming, including workshops and gatherings such as Kokum lunches, beading sessions, and soapstone carving. While many initiatives are designed specifically for Indigenous learners, IMLA also offers select opportunities for non-Indigenous learners to participate in cultural learning and relationship-building.

Learner Support

"Providing strong learner support for Indigenous medical students is essential not only to ensure their success, but also to help build a healthcare workforce that is culturally grounded, community-connected, and equipped to advance Indigenous health equity."

- Hannah McKay, Pillar Lead, 2026
